'Boardwalk Empire' Creator Explains Decision to Use Contemporary Theme Music
There are so many things to love about Boardwalk Empire, from the characters to the costumes to the title sequence, which features star Steve Buscemi standing on an Atlantic City beach as hundreds of bottles wash ashore around him. But some fans of the HBO drama, whose second season premieres tonight, have wondered why the show's theme song, a track by psych rock band Brian Jonestown Massacre from their 1996 album Take It From the Man!, was chosen rather than a period-appropriate piece of music.our editor recommendsEmmys 2011: Martin Scorsese Talks About His Directing Win for 'Boardwalk Empire'St. Vincent Records Track for 'Boardwalk Empire''Boardwalk Empire' Gives NYC Subway Riders the Nucky Thompson Experience With Vintage Train "I wanted unexpected," Boardwalk creator and executive producer Terence Winter tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I didn't want to do some Charleston, which didn't really kick in until 1924 anyway, and everything I heard from the period had people doing the Charleston." While experimenting with the opening, Winter says he paired the footage of Buscemi looking out to the horizon with several different pieces of music, including Brian Jonestown's "Straight Up and Down." "I had been a fan of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, so we tried it, and I said to the editor, that really works for me." Even with so much attention paid to period details such as wardrobe and props, the fact that the theme employs a contemporary song using instruments not yet invented during the prohibition era, when Boardwalk Empire takes place, doesn't bother Winter one bit. "It's a show set in 1920 seen through a different perspective, not a literal look at the 1920s," he explains. "Some people find it jarring to see 1920s clothes and hear contemporary music. I look at it as, it's a 90-second intro and then you have all the 20s you want." 'Chinglish' Cast Explores Bilingual Performance (Video)
Language and understanding are core concepts of Broadway-bound "Chinglish," based on playwright David Henry Hwang. However when one fourth from the play is within Mandarin, so how exactly does the performance translate for stars and audiences?"It switched to be much more Chinese than I figured,Inch states Johnny Wu, who plays Bing and select Xu Geming. Wu spent the very first eight many years of his existence in Shanghai and talks Mandarin fluently, just like the majority of the cast."It is good to understand that individuals many years of likely to Chinese school wasn't completely lost," states Christine Lin, who plays Zhao, adding that her parents are thrilled she's using her Chinese.Actually, the only real cast member not fluent within the language is Gary Wilmes. Wilmes' character, Daniel Cavanaugh, would go to China to try and secure an agreement for his family's business and encounters obstacles to communication beyond words. "Chinglish" had its world premiere in the Goodman Theatre in Chicago in June and begins previews in the Longacre Theatre on March. 11.Being an actor, carrying out in 2 languages could be a challenge."With Chinese you need to embody a language," states Stephen Pucci, who plays British expat Peter Timms. "You need to type of adopt a Chinese persona, a Chinese body."Pucci is an ideal fit with this production: He's a B.A. in modern Chinese studies and it has resided and analyzed in China."I did not think the field of Chinese and acting would really ever get together for me personally,Inch he describes. "You will find very few parts for any whitened guy speaking Chinese."Even native Chinese loudspeakers don't also have the chance. Hong Kongborn Jennifer Lim only has had small possibilities to showcase her Chinese being an actor. "I have only ever needed to [speak Chinese] for small things for film and TV after i take part in the illegal immigrant or even the nail salon girl," states Lim, that has been using the production as Xu Yan because the first reading through last year. "However for this, it's incredible."Angela Lin, who seems as Miss Qian and District attorney Li, states she gets honored to participate a bilingual cast. "It is so wonderful to stay in a cast where all of us speak Mandarin, and that we can all spend time with one another and produce out our native language,Inch she states. "It feels as though home."

Two And A Half Men Premiere: What Did You Think?
Here it is — the new television season. Its opening night contained one of this fall’s most anticipated programs, the ninth season premiere of CBS’ Two and a Half Men featuring new star Ashton Kutcher. After seeing the premiere, that poster featuring Kutcher and his co-stars naked, hiding their private parts behind a banner, starts to make some sense as Kutcher’s character likes walking around the house with no clothes on. Though the premise of his character — a tall, handsome, smart guy with the body of an underwear model and $1.3 billion in the bank who can’t find love — still baffles me. Former Men star Charlie Sheen gave the reboot thumbs-up. “Surrounded by friends and watching the premier of Two and a Half Men,” he tweeted tonight. “Odd… But cool..! So far a lot of laughs!!” and later, “laughing our assess off.” What did you think? Did you miss Charlie?Watch Transformers 3 Megavideo

Renny Harlin and Geena Davis Really Did Not Want To Make Cutthroat Island
“Originally, Michael Douglas was supposed to star in [the movie]. And he walked away. At that point I was left there with my then-wife, Geena Davis and myself, and a company that was already belly-up. We begged to be let go. We begged that we didn’t have to make this movie.” In fact, the couple was so frightened that they sunk their own money into a last-ditch script rewrite. “We felt that a pirate movie with a female lead was suicidal, but we were contractually obligated. […] I personally spent a million dollars of my own money, I hired Mark Norman, who had won an Oscar for writing Shakespeare in Love.” Even so, Cutthroat Island turned out to be one of the biggest box office disasters of all time and sunk Carolco production company. Julianne Moore Dates Back To College
With Greg Kinnear within the British TeacherThere are a handful of ginormous Julianne Moore fans around these parts, so every day when she subscribes for any new project appears just like a Good Day. Ideally she'd subscribe to a brand new project every single day but that will most likely destroy her. Rather, we'll take tidings that she's joining Greg Kinnear within the British Teacher and hope it gives her lots of chance to flaunt her acting chops. Charged being an 'indie comedy', The British Teacher follows high-school British teacher Linda Sinclair (Moore) whose existence is switched upside lower through the return of the star student. Stated pupil has unsuccessful like a playwright in New You are able to and gone to his small-town school, most probably in certain type of teaching capacity, where he makes things awkward for Sinclair. Whether there is a romantic position, we are not wholly sure, but they are unlikely to become investing time bickering over Wally Whitman. The British Teacher marks the directorial debut of Craig Zisk. They have a good slice of offbeat TV work behind him, including instances of Puppy nip/Tuck, The Large C and Weeds, that might give some clue regarding the tone of his first feature. On the other hand, it might not. Not sure yet on Kinnear's role in things but return for additional on that. Watch Transformers 3 Dark Of The Moon Full Movie
